swimming, my head upturned
if I leaned back far enough I thought i saw the curve of the world
and mosquitoes rested on white-washed walls
and they perched there peacefully without biting at all
and in the evening when we lay on our backs
among swarms of swallows snatching gnats
flights of birds dived by our heads inches from out grassy beds
and the sky was black with beating wings
the earth speaks loudest in tiny things!
and we have come to take these things as signs
a nosebleed and small hands, a taste of something more divine
as stars are stitched in their embroidery frame
all in the constant humming of your name
